I just wanted to mention that another reason that we are very strict about this is because we want therapists to be aware that if this test was ever used as evidence in a court of law for a liability suit, it will not be accepted. Copies of tests are unacceptable in court. So, we want you to be protecting yourself as well.

I apologize for any confusion. I'm not sure who you spoke with each time, but our staff members should all know that they were translated into Spanish already. There must have been some confusion as to what it was you were looking for.

In any case, the Spanish SFS was translated around 1995 and the French Spinal Function Sort about 1997. Both languages have their problems as has been noted by French and Spanish speakers. Because French is spoken in many countries where the dialect may be different, the SFS may not translate exactly. The same goes for the Spanish versions. Currently, the SFS is available in English, French, Spanish. The HFS is available in English and Spanish only. All user manuals are in English only.

Is it possible that the person with whom you spoke said that the manuals were still in English?

It is interesting that this has occurred as I have asked at every course I've attended in the last 2 years and I was told each time by Matheson staff that there were no translated versions of the Sorts. When were these published? Our clinic was unaware of this fact as I took the FCE course last April and received the same information, which was when we began the translation to Spanish. Also, we are only using this information in our clinic and are not distributing the materials to anyone.

I will alert our clinic manager so that we may purchase the new versions. Thank you for the information.

Abelez1 - The Spinal and Hand Function Sorts are copyrighted material and are owned by Epic Rehab. It is an infringement of copyright laws to alter the Sorts in any way and to redistribute them. The Spinal and Hand Function Sorts have already been translated by Epic Rehab into both Spanish and French and can be purchased via Epic Rehab or Matheson. We kindly ask that you not use your version any longer and if you need to use the Sorts in Spanish that you purchase them directly.

Gennaro_m, are you translating the WorkStation software report into French or is it something else of which you are speaking? If you are translating the Matheson WorkStation software report into French then we also ask that you refrain from doing so as it is protected under copyright laws and altering it through translation is a direct violation of those laws.

My clinic has currently translated the Spinal/Hand sorts and the pain scales (VAS, FPS). Anything else which requires the person to read is verbally translated by one of our staff members. I suggest having several individuals, who are bilingual, review the information separately to be sure the translated aspects make sense (especially if there are regional differences in the language).
