I asked that very question at a course recently and was informed that the spaces between the two should be counted. However, with such a marked disparity between selections, it might be best to clarify with the subject what they percieve their abilities to be-it could just be they made an error in numbering. That happens occasionally. It could also be that they have a completely irrational explanation for such a disparity.
