Do any of you have any information regarding testing BP prior to Post-Offer Physical Demands testing? What parameters are used? What do you do if the prospective employee falls outside of those set parameters? Do any of you have this in policy/procedure you’re willing to share?

  Hello! I have posted your

Hello!

I have posted your question to our LinkedIn group and I got a couple responses (as well as another response that came straight to our email instead of here for some reason):

"I don't perform these tests currently, but when I used to, we agreed on parameters with our physicians (with many of our tests, they were having a physical along with a post-offer test) and had a standard cutoffn as part of the testing protocol. If an applicant didn't meet the BP requirements, we would discuss with the evaluating physician, but generally speaking, we would not test them that day. Sometimes it was anxiety about taking the test, but often, we were discovering untreated/undiagnosed BP issues."

"When doing functional assessments we use a cut off of 150/100 mm Hg - this is our guidleline and we might proceed with caution in some cases; completing some of the tests but avoiding the more strenuous ones. As Leah noted we too find undiagnosed hypertension relatively frequently. In most cases we recommend the client follow-up with their physician and return for testing, once cleared to do so. Safety first."

"Yes, I check resting VS for post-offer evaluations, as this speaks directly to fitness for duty. I do not proceed with testing if resting SBP is >200, DBP >100, HR <50 or >100 unless the employee's treating physician provides alternative parameters."

I hope this helps! Here is the link to our LinkedIn group in case you want to check it out!
