I have had question posed to me by one of my oocupation health nurses at a local industry. She wants to know when technically a job task can officially be considered "repetitive." Is there any official/legal way to determine when a task meets this threshold?
Thanks
Hello!
Per our clinical advisor:
There is a lot of vagueness in our profession about that very topic. To my knowledge, there has never been any concrete, univerally accepted definition for frequency regarding the concept of "repetitive". Do you sit repetitively at work? Is it one, four or twelve times a day, hour or minute? One piece of research has been published, but that was selective to a finger motion, I believe. There are many components of analysis of risk other than just frequency-force, recovery time, range of motion and environmental factors.
Tough question to answer, but to my knowlege there is no accepted, universal means to determine whether or not an action is "repetitive".
If you have any further questions, please let me know and I'll gladly assist you in finding an answer!
Thanks,
Jenn
