Hello, I have rec'd a referral for a FCE with a focus on cardiac function. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what protocols to include for such an assessment? Thanks
I would ask more questions about the goal for the evaluation:
are you looking for cardiac response to a certain physical demand?
are you looking for cardiac response to a certain job?
are you looking for ability to safely undergo testing?
are you looking for full-day cardiac ability (MET testing)?
are they trying to develop a case resolution strategy?
Listen carefully to their response. If you sense that the referral source is a medical or vocational professional seeking a case resolution strategy, probe their options for closure. If they are looking at a particular job and the person is an incumbent, proceed with an eye toward ADA implications.
