The Certified Work Capacity Evaluator and Certified Functional Capacity Evaluator

The Certified Work Capacity Evaluator (CWCE)

and

Certified Functional Capacity Evaluator (CFCE)

designations recognize a level of training and demonstrated ability in work evaluation as evidenced by academic preparation, completion of the five-day FCE Certification program and subsequent fieldwork.

To apply for the CWCE/CFCE designation, the candidate must meet the academic preparation requirements, graduate from the certification program, complete a minimum of 20 work evaluations, and submit a completed application package. You can review the detailed Policies and Procedures by beginning here.

The Functional Capacity Evaluation Certification Program

Train to plan, administer and report a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) that represents the highest level of evaluation practice in the industry. This is the premiere Functional Capacity Evaluation training available today. You will be trained to plan, administer, score and report a functional capacity evaluation that meets the reliability and validity requirements of the Practice Hierarchy of Industrial Rehabilitation. The Practice Hierarchy sets the standard by which all functional capacity evaluations are judged.

Culminating in an actual administration of a functional capacity evaluation, the course will train you in a protocol that has been carefully built around evaluation tools which are widely accepted in the field, have been court-tested, have published peer-reviewed reliability and validity studies and are inexpensive to purchase. During your five days of training you'll work with some of the top work evaluators in North America. Each certification program instructor is also a full-time evaluator.

Flexible Evaluation

Tailored to the unique needs of each case, a typical Functional Capacity Evaluation can be completed in 2 to 6 hours. Although usually performed in one day, the evaluation can be performed over two or more days if need be.

Reliability and Validity

Two of the main concerns of work evaluators are the issues of Reliability and Validity. The protocol taught in the certification course relies on tools having some of the highest reliability results in the field. Also, because the protocol you will learn relies on the "thinking evaluator" approach to testing, and not high-tech, low-utility equipment, the protocol you will learn carries the highest Validity available today.

On-going Support

One of the unique features of the Matheson's Functional Capacity Evaluation Certification Program is the on-going support you will receive! Time and time again we get calls from program managers preparing for next year's budget. One of the questions commonly asked is, "How much should I allocate for the cost of clinical support?" Our answer is always, "Nothing. It's free." In fact, we pride ourselves in doing something few other companies in the industry do: a real, live person will answer the phone when you call. We promise to continue to help develop your unique clinical growth. Our online metabolic endurance calculators are just an example of our efforts to support your success. The Matheson Staff and all of its resources are just a phone call away.

No "Required" Equipment

The Functional Capacity Evaluation Certification Program teaches an assessment protocol that uses testing instruments typically found in rehabilitation clinics. If you do not already own these testing devices, we'll make suggestions and provide references for equipment purchase. Although The Matheson System sells a complete line of Functional Capacity Evaluation equipment, you are not required to purchase from us. We respect your right to purchase equipment on the open market. Further, each student attending the course receives two sets of evaluation forms that may be copied and reused in the clinic.
